Does dating online work?

i am skeptical about online dating,evryone thinks that i am crazy to even think about it. i dont know what to think.I d like to meet someone nice but i cant seem to find one . i don't go out much , iam 28. i wnat to try to look online dating but i don't anyone who has been successful with that, cause you don't really know who you are meeting and who you r talking to . i am so afraid that i m gonna spend the rest of my life alone after a divorce! what shoul i do?
