My lawn is in a terrible condition?

It's got every weed I can think of in it this year and very little gr, I was wondering if I can buy something like astro turf,(you know the stuff they use for indoor football pitches) dig the lawn up and use that instead, would it be ok outdoors and where can you purchase it
